Pranayama Basics for Relaxation & Renewal

Prana is the Sanskrit word for breath and pranayama is the practice of changing the pattern of our breath to achieve a desired effect. Focusing awareness on the breath draws the mind away from distracting (and often distressing!) thoughts. When the mind quiets, we experience a more relaxed and peaceful state.  In this workshop, students will learn a few simple pranayama techniques intended to optimize feelings of physical, mental and spiritual well-being.  Light gentle asana will release tension from the body prior to taking comfortable and supported positions for breath work. This workshop is open to all. No prior yoga experience necessary.
